Dr. Dante Canil is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Science. His expertise encompasses experimental and igneous petrology, mantle and crustal evolution, geothermobarometry, and Vancouver Island geology.
Research investigates deep earth geochemical cycles, lithosphere-asthenosphere dynamics, and magma-carbonate interactions. Recent publications examine Archean mantle oxygen fugacity, exhumation responses to tectonic processes, and optimized analytical workflows for mineral exploration.
Current projects include thermochronological studies of the Pacific-North American plate boundary and investigations of intraoceanic arc continentalization in the Jurassic Bonanza arc.
