Danqing Xiao is an Assistant Professor in the STEM department at Regis College, where she has been a faculty member since 2013. She previously served as an adjunct assistant professor at MCPHS University and teaching fellow at Boston University, and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital in Neurology and Psychiatry.
Her educational background spans multiple disciplines:
- PhD in Neuroscience, Boston University, 2003
- MS in Pharmacology, SUNY Upstate Medical University, 1997
- MS in Entomology, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Science, 1993
- BS in Radiologic Sciences, MCPHS University, 2012
- BS in Biology, Henan Normal University, 1990
Dr. Xiao's research investigates functional brain connectivity mechanisms in neurological and psychiatric disorders, with primary focus on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. She employs neuroimaging techniques like diffusion tensor imaging and genetic association studies to identify biomarkers and evaluate pharmacological/alternative therapies. Her work bridges basic neuroscience with clinical applications, particularly in monitoring disease progression and developing therapeutic interventions.
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications (2002-2022) reveals a strong trajectory toward Alzheimer's disease research since 2020, utilizing advanced neuroimaging and genetic methodologies to explore cognitive decline biomarkers. Earlier work (2004-2010) centered on Parkinson's disease mechanisms, especially adenosine receptor roles in L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia, demonstrating consistent expertise in neurodegenerative disease pathophysiology.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Postdoctoral fellowship award from American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA), 2006-2007
- SMRT John A. Koveleski Award recipient, 2012-2013
Dr. Xiao has secured significant research funding as Principal Investigator on three Kaneb Faculty Scholar Grants (2020-2022) for Alzheimer's disease biomarker studies and an APDA grant (2006-2007), plus collaborative grants for neuroscience program development. She actively mentors students through Regis College's independent study courses and established internship partnerships with McLean Hospital and MGH, supervising research leading to college presentations.
As a member of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and Society for Neuroscience, she maintains active engagement in professional networks driving innovation in neurodegenerative disease research.
