Dr. Danny McNally is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography at Teesside University, affiliated with the Institute for Collective Place Leadership and the Department of Law, Policing and Investigation Centre for Public Health. He holds a PhD from Royal Holloway University of London and has prior academic roles at institutions including Royal Holloway, Leeds Beckett University, and the University of Reading. His research focuses on critical geographies of flooding, participatory art, and the intersection of art and urban planning. He has secured grants such as the British Academy Small Research Grant for his work on flood knowledges and led projects like the 'River Studio' initiative. Notable collaborations include work with the Royal Town Planning Institute, Tate Modern, and artists like Laura Harrington and Onya McCausland.
Education: PhD (2016), MSc (2010), BA (2009) in Human Geography from Royal Holloway University of London and Leeds Metropolitan University.
Research Interests: Climate crisis mitigation through creative practices, participatory art methodologies, and reimagining urban planning through aesthetic approaches. Recent publications explore topics like funerary spaces for minorities, waste materials in art, and interdisciplinary research models in academia.
Current PhD supervision includes projects on landscape studies, ecocritical literature, and cartographic uncertainties. He is actively involved in fostering collaborative research environments in teaching-led institutions.
