Dr. Danielle Schoenaker is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton's School of Human Development and Health and MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre. She holds a PhD in maternal health from the University of Queensland (2017) and has held research positions in Australia and the UK. Her work focuses on preconception health, aiming to improve strategies for reproductive-age populations, particularly to reduce health disparities. She leads projects on preconception care in primary care, national surveillance systems, and international collaboration through the iCIPHE Alliance.
Education: BSc and MSc in Nutrition/Epidemiology (University of Queensland), PhD in Maternal Health (2017). Current roles include Honorary positions at UCL and UK Health Improvement. She supervises PhD/MSc students and teaches epidemiology modules. Leadership roles include Chair of the UK Preconception EMCR Network and member of HiPPP EMR-C executive committee.
Research interests span preconception health, developmental origins of disease, and lifecourse epidemiology. Key projects include NIHR-funded work on primary care interventions and surveillance systems. Over 20 awards highlight her contributions to research, public engagement, and career development.
External commitments include advisory roles for the Active Pregnancy Foundation and UK Preconception Partnership.
