Danielle Ryan

Danielle Ryan is a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at Charles Sturt University, affiliated with the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences and the Gulbali Research Institute. She earned her BAppSc(Hons) and PhD from CSU, followed by post-doctoral research at the University of Milan and RMIT University, before commencing her academic career at CSU in 2005. Her work spans teaching and research in analytical chemistry, with a strong emphasis on separation science and metabolomics.

Her research focuses on the application of advanced analytical techniques to study complex natural metabolomes, particularly to understand the quality of natural products and the health benefits of bioactive compounds. Key areas include phenolics in olives, antioxidants in Australian native plants, and metabolomic profiling in clinical and agricultural contexts. She employs techniques such as comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) and NMR-based metabolomics.

The recent trends in her publications reflect a multidisciplinary approach integrating analytical chemistry with food science, ethnobotany, and clinical applications. Her work spans from method development in chromatography to applied studies on Australian flora and human health, showing consistent innovation in separation science and metabolomics.

Her collaborative research spans national and international institutions, and she contributes to professional engagement through the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, where she serves as Treasurer of the Riverina-Murray section.

She is a core member of the Chemistry Teaching Team and collaborates extensively on curriculum development and student learning initiatives.
