Danielle Peers, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta, located in Treaty 6 territory. Her work bridges academia, art, and athletics, informed by her experiences as a Paralympic athlete, disability sport coach, and social justice activist.
- Research Focus: Explores how movement cultures (sport, dance, activism) reflect and challenge social injustice, prioritizing collaboration with 2SLGBTQI+ and disability communities.
- Artistic Contributions: Co-founder of KingCrip Productions and CRIPSiE (Collaborative Radically Integrated Performers); video artist with seven films including G.I.M.P. Bootcamp and New Constellations.
- Athletics: Paralympic Bronze Medalist (2004), World Champion (2006), and five-time Canadian National Champion with Team Canada wheelchair basketball (2003-2008).
- Community Leadership: Co-founded SPACE (Sustainable, Political, Accessible Communities of Edmonton), moderated National Roundtable on Disability and Human Rights (2012), and served as National Ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
