Prof. Danielle Celermajer is a Professor at the University of Sydney, where she directs the Masters of Human Rights and Democratisation and the Sydney Masters of Human Rights. She held a visiting researcher position in the Research Department Global Governance at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center in December 2012. Her work focuses on constructing socially just political communities amid diversity, addressing historical injustices, international human rights frameworks, and mechanisms to reconcile past violations. She explores the intersection of global and local contexts in negotiating difference, with emphasis on institutional applications of human rights principles.
Her research spans theoretical and practical dimensions of social justice, including how societies can inclusively integrate diverse populations while reckoning with historical wrongs. She examines the role of international human rights institutions in domestic legal systems and strategies for managing cultural and political differences within globalized and localized structures.
