Daniele Santarelli is an Associate Professor of Modern History at the Università degli Studi della Campania 'Luigi Vanvitelli', affiliated with the Dipartimento di Lettere e Beni Culturali and associated with the Triangle laboratory. Born in 1979, he holds a doctorate in the History of Christianity from the University of Padua (2006) and qualifications as a lecturer in French universities (2007) and a Second-Class University Professor in Italian universities (2014). He won the Rita Levi Montalcini Young Researchers Award in 2014.
His research focuses on early modern European religious and political history, particularly the papacy under Paul IV, the Counter-Reformation, the Inquisition, and Venetian diplomatic relations. He has authored or co-authored over 50 publications, including books on Paul IV’s papacy and edited volumes of historical correspondence.
Teaching includes courses on European and Mediterranean history, emphasizing religious dissent, gender studies, and historical methodology. He has served on academic committees and contributed to projects in cultural heritage and public engagement. During 2024–2025, he is on sabbatical for research.
Key awards include the Rita Levi Montalcini grant (2014). His work bridges historiography with primary sources, offering insights into early modern institutional dynamics and cultural conflicts.
