Daniela Standen is an Associate Professor and Academic Director of Teaching and Learning at the NUIST-Reading Academy, part of the University of Reading. She leads on academic quality, international curriculum development, and global graduate attributes. Her roles include membership in the University's International Working Group and oversight of international foundation programs. Standen holds a M.Ed. in Applied Linguistics and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her teaching and research focus on intercultural competence, academic literacies, inclusive pedagogy, and assessment innovation. Standen has pioneered initiatives such as the Global Graduate Programme and the Red Global Engagement Award. She has led over a dozen teaching and learning projects, including those addressing dyslexia in language learning and peer-based assessment strategies.
Key scholarly contributions include studies on flipped learning, vernacular literacies, and student partnerships in curriculum design. Standen has presented at conferences across Europe, including the UK Association for Language Testing and the Association of University Language Centres. She is affiliated with professional bodies like BALEAP and the London & South East Academic Integrity Network.
Awards include University Teaching Fellow and UNILANG Examiner status. Standen’s work bridges educational policy, language pedagogy, and global citizenship, with a focus on transformative teaching practices.
