Daniela Aiello serves as Assistant Professor of Geography within the Department of Geography at Pennsylvania State University's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Based in 216 Walker Building, she can be contacted via dpa5460@psu.edu or 814-863-1005.
As an urban geographer specializing in urban political economy and critical race/post-colonial studies, Dr. Aiello investigates housing inequality through community-based research methodologies. Her work focuses on eviction dynamics and rent-burden in North America, employing research-as-organizing to bridge academic and community action. Current projects examine intersections between evictions, colonialism, and racial capitalism using archival analysis, oral histories, and nine years of ethnographic engagement with tenant movements in Atlanta and Vancouver.
Dr. Aiello actively recruits graduate students for research in:
- Housing and racial inequality (Canada/US/US South)
- Urban Indigenous social movements (Canada/US)
- Community engaged scholarship
- Archival research and postcolonial theories of materiality/textuality
