Daniela Agostinho is an Associate Professor at the School of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University, and a Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS). She holds a PhD in Culture Studies from the Catholic University of Portugal (2014) and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Copenhagen (2016–2021). Her interdisciplinary research focuses on visual culture, postcolonial studies, and digital archives, with particular emphasis on colonial archives, reparative practices, and feminist digital humanities.
Her current projects include co-directing the transcontinental network 'Reparative Encounters' (2023–2026), funded by the Nordic Culture Fund, and leading the 'Entangled Colonialites Collective' at Aarhus University. She is also involved with the Center for Critical Data Practices and the Digital Aesthetics Research Center.
Agostinho’s research explores how artistic and curatorial practices engage with colonial histories and digital archives. Recent publications include Archival Encounters (forthcoming) and co-edited volumes such as Uncertain Archives: Critical Keywords for Big Data (2021). Her exhibitions include For Alberta and Victor (2021) and 13 Shots (2018). She teaches courses in critical data studies and curating, and advises PhD students in visual culture, media justice, and postcolonial methodologies.
Her work has been supported by grants from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Research Council. She regularly presents at international venues like the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the European Summer School in Cultural Studies.
