Daniel Woods

Daniel Woods is a Researcher at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), where he teaches Biochemistry (CHE311) and General Biology laboratory courses (BIO121, BIO122). He concurrently serves as a Research Scientist at the David Axelrod Institute, Wadsworth Center, Division of Infectious Diseases, New York State Department of Health. His academic foundation includes advanced training in molecular and cellular biology.

Dr. Woods' research centers on bacterial adaptation mechanisms, with emphasis on stress response systems in pathogens like mycobacteria and enteric bacteria. His work on intein biology and RNA recycling pathways bridges fundamental molecular processes with clinical applications in infectious disease diagnostics, particularly for pathogenic E. coli detection.

Current initiatives include developing a novel assay at the Wadsworth Center for identifying pathogenic E. coli in clinical samples. He was competitively selected for Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's advanced protein analysis course in Spring 2022, reflecting expertise in biochemical methodology.

Within the Wadsworth Center's Division of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Woods collaborates on research teams focused on pathogen characterization and diagnostic innovation, contributing to public health surveillance efforts.
