Benjamin J. Briggs, M.D., Ph.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He specializes in leveraging advanced molecular diagnostics for infections that challenge conventional detection methods, including Coxiella, Bartonella, and Non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
- Education: MD and PhD from State University of New York at Buffalo (2012)
- Clinical experience: Residency at Rush University Medical Center (2013-2016), Fellowship at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital (2016-2019)
His research focuses on sequencing-based diagnostics (clinical metagenomics), combining molecular and computational approaches to improve rapid pathogen detection and antimicrobial resistance predictions. This work addresses critical gaps in diagnostic capabilities during epidemics and complex infections.
Dr. Briggs emphasizes infectious disease education across medical specialties, advocating for foundational frameworks to enhance patient care. He practices at UR Medicine and is part of the Accountable Health Partners network.
