Neima Briggs, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at Yale School of Medicine, with a concurrent postdoctoral fellowship in Immunobiology. His research focuses on immunity to parasitic infections, including soil-transmitted helminths, and involves collaborations with labs at Yale, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Clinically, he specializes in Travel and Tropical Medicine, providing care at Yale and the West Haven VA. Briggs holds a MD/PhD from the University of Texas, completed residency in Internal Medicine at Yale, and has advanced training in tropical medicine from Baylor College of Medicine.
Education:
- MD, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston (2019)
- PhD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (2018)
- BS, The University of Texas at Austin (2011)
Research Interests: His work explores host-parasite interactions, vaccine development (e.g., hookworm mRNA vaccines), and diagnostic markers for helminth infections. Recent studies include a Honduran prevalence study identifying Tm-WAP49 antibodies as a diagnostic marker and reconfiguring CD4+ T cell responses during helminth infections. Collaborations with global partners in Brazil and Honduras emphasize translational research to address neglected tropical diseases.
Publications & Awards: Briggs has published widely on parasitic infections, convalescent plasma in severe COVID-19, and antimicrobial dosing. Notable awards include the Burroughs Wellcome Fund/ASTMH Postdoctoral Fellowship and the ASTMH Benjamin H. Kean Travel Fellowship. His work has been featured in *Immunity*, *PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases*, and *The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene*.
Labs & Collaboration: Briggs collaborates with the Craft Lab (Yale Immunobiology), Texas Children’s Hospital’s Vaccine Development Center, and the Fujiwara Lab in Brazil. His research integrates immunology, vaccinology, and global health to advance diagnostics and therapies for neglected infections.
