Daniel Whitehead

Daniel Whitehead is an Associate Professor with tenure at the Department of Chemistry, Clemson University, where he has been a faculty member since 2011. He serves as the Associate Department Chair and Undergraduate Program Coordinator, with lab spaces in Hunter Hall and Jordan Hall.

• B.S., M.S. in Chemistry from Furman University (2002-2003)

• Postdoc in Bio-Organic Chemistry, North Carolina State University (2009-2011)

His research spans Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, and Drug Discovery, focusing on:

• Developing novel organic reactions
• Anti-infective drug discovery for chronic diseases
• Functional nanomaterials for environmental/biomedical uses
• Collaborations across Clemson, the U.S., and globally

Recent publications highlight his work in X-ray opaque polymers, cellulose-based environmental remediation, and iodoarene catalysis. He received the Dr. Fred D. Bisplinghoff Research Innovation Award (2019) and has supervised interdisciplinary projects on VOC capture, nanomaterials, and parasitic disease treatments.
