Dr Daniel Sutton is a Research Fellow at Peterhouse College, University of Cambridge, and part of the Faculty of Classics. His research focuses on ancient Greek and Roman historiography, particularly Thucydides and Sallust, with an emphasis on political thought, language, and civil conflict. He holds a DPhil from St John's College, Oxford, where his thesis examined language change during civil strife in ancient thought. Sutton is currently revising this work for publication and writing a New Surveys in the Classics volume on Thucydides.
His academic journey includes a BA/MMath in Ancient & Modern History (Oxford) and a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard (2018–2019). Sutton’s publications appear in journals like Classical Antiquity and Harvard Studies in Classical Philology. He serves as Acting Praelector (2024–2025) and engages in interdisciplinary work bridging classical historiography and modern political theory.
