Daniel Stolz is the Kemal H. Karpat Associate Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, affiliated with the Department of History and the College of Letters & Science. He specializes in the late Ottoman Empire and modern Middle Eastern history, focusing on the intersection of technical knowledge, science, and governance. His research examines how Ottoman and Egyptian societies adapted to modernization, particularly through studies of astronomy, public debt, and religious practices.
