Professor Ali Coşkun Tunçer is an economic historian at University College London's History Department, specializing in financial markets, Middle Eastern history, and the Ottoman Empire. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics (2011), with prior degrees from Turkish and Greek institutions. His current research includes funded projects on urban wealth distribution in the Ottoman Empire (1600-1914) and stock exchange development in the Middle East.

Research Focus: Combines social science methods with historical analysis to explore financial systems, political economy, and socio-economic structures. Active projects investigate religious segregation's economic impacts, domestic debt in emerging markets, and the interplay between political systems and sovereign debt risk.

Teaching & Academic Roles: Teaches quantitative history methods and economic history courses. Serves as Honorary Treasurer of the Economic History Society and editorial board member of Economic History of Developing Regions. Leads the IHR's Economic and Social History of the Early Modern World Seminar.
