Daniel Siedell is a Senior Lecturer at Stockholm University working in the Department of Culture and Aesthetics. He teaches in the International M.A. Curating Art programme and conducts research exploring how curating functions as both practice and methodology across academic and public contexts.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in modern & contemporary art history, theory, and criticism from The University of Iowa (USA)
- M.A. in art criticism & theory from Stony Brook University (New York)
- Currently completing a second doctorate in theology and philosophy of religion from Drew Theological School
Siedell's research focuses on the intersections between art, theology, religion, theory, and spirituality. He specifically deploys the concept of the curatorial as a methodological framework, with his current theological dissertation titled 'Exhibiting God: The Curatorial as Theological Method.' His work examines boundaries and connections across these disciplines through curatorial practice.
His professional experience includes eleven years as Chief Curator of the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska, where he managed a permanent collection of 19th & 20th century North American art and collaborated with numerous artists. Since then, he has worked as an independent curator and consultant while maintaining his academic position.
Teaching has been central to his career, with experience focused on art students throughout the USA. His courses cover curatorial studies, art theory & criticism, and modern & contemporary art, including specialized seminars on the Museum of Modern Art's institutional history, curatorial practice history, and museology.
