Dr. Daniel Schoth is a Lecturer in Health Psychology at the University of Southampton's School of Psychology (Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences). He specializes in experimental health psychology, focusing on cognitive and sensory mechanisms underlying chronic pain. His research employs advanced methods such as eye-tracking and quantitative sensory testing to investigate attentional/interpretation biases in pain perception, with particular emphasis on chronic headaches and musculoskeletal pain. He has conducted numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses to synthesize evidence in pain management, including studies on pediatric populations and family caregivers of terminally ill patients.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses (e.g., PSYC1020, PSYC2026) and postgraduate modules (e.g., PSYC6002, PSYC6145), with roles as module coordinator for key programs. His current research explores combined cognitive biases in chronic pain patients and the therapeutic potential of bias modification techniques, alongside somatosensory system analysis in adults and children. He collaborates with the Centre for Clinical and Community Applications of Health Psychology.
