Daniel S. Evans, PhD, MPH is a Senior Scientist at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute (CPMCRI) and the San Francisco Coordinating Center (SFCC), as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Evans received his PhD and MPH from UC Berkeley. His educational background in public health and epidemiology has provided a strong foundation for his research in aging and genetics.
Dr. Evans' research focuses on the analysis of high-dimensional genomic data in large clinical research studies to identify and characterize factors associated with human aging. He combines expertise in genomics, aging, and epidemiology to perform statistical analysis appropriate for the data and study design characteristics of research initiatives. His work includes Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) meta-analyses of human lifespan, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and body composition, among other aging-related traits. As Principal Investigator of the multiple-PI Longevity Genomics research program, he has integrated genome-wide genetic data with gene expression to identify translational strategies related to the human lifespan. In collaborative translational studies with laboratory scientists at UCSF, he has integrated mouse bone transcriptomics and GWAS to discover genes that change expression with age in mouse bone and that are associated with bone mineral density and fracture. In the Longevity Consortium (LC), Dr. Evans and colleagues designed a case-cohort study that combined biospecimens and data across four longitudinal cohort studies of elderly individuals to identify predictive metabolomic and proteomic biomarkers associated with future achievement of longevity.
Analysis of Dr. Evans' recent publications reveals a strong focus on the intersection of genetics, aging, and musculoskeletal health. His work spans multiple disciplines including gerontology, genetics, epidemiology, and bone biology. A notable trend in his research is the integration of genomic data with other 'omics' approaches (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) to understand complex aging-related traits. His publications demonstrate expertise in sophisticated statistical methods for analyzing large-scale genetic data, particularly genome-wide association studies and meta-analyses. Dr. Evans frequently collaborates with large international consortia, reflecting the collaborative nature of modern genomic research.
Dr. Evans actively participates in large collaborative research initiatives, working with numerous colleagues across institutions to advance understanding of aging and related conditions. His role as Principal Investigator of the Longevity Genomics research program demonstrates his leadership in directing research projects and managing scientific teams.
Dr. Evans is affiliated with several important research entities, including the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, the San Francisco Coordinating Center, and the Longevity Consortium. These affiliations provide him with access to extensive resources, data, and collaborative opportunities necessary for conducting large-scale genomic research on aging and related conditions.
