Daniel Rock is an Assistant Professor of Operations, Information, and Decisions at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also an affiliated faculty member at Wharton AI for Business and serves as a Digital Fellow at both the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy and the Stanford HAI Digital Economy Lab.
Dr. Rock received his B.S. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Between undergraduate and graduate studies, he worked as an Algorithmic Trader at DRW Trading.
His research focuses on the economic effects of digital technologies, with particular emphasis on the economics of artificial intelligence. His work shows that new digital technologies and intangible assets are increasingly important components of economic activity. Investment in data assets, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and technological human capital are critical margins for firm competition and social change.
Dr. Rock's research has been published in various academic journals and featured in prominent outlets such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Harvard Business Review, and Sloan Management Review. His work involves applying cutting-edge data science techniques to analyze datasets from financial market sources, online resume sites, and job postings.
