Dr. Daniel Ramjattan is an Instructor of Guitar and Lecturer at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Music in Waterloo, Ontario. He is also a concert guitarist, recording artist, and performance anxiety coach. His roles include designing Wilfrid Laurier’s first music performance anxiety and performance skills course (launched 2022) and lecturing at institutions like McGill University and the University of Toronto. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Toronto (2022), where his dissertation focused on music performance anxiety in classical guitarists.
Education: Doctor of Musical Arts (University of Toronto, 2022), with a senior doctoral fellowship. Previous studies under mentors including Patrick Roux and Bruce Holzman.
Research interests include music performance anxiety mitigation through cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment therapy. He has presented his work at academic conferences and been featured on CBC’s The National as an expert.
Awards include top prizes in national competitions (OMFA, FCMF), finalist placements in international guitar competitions, and recognition for his debut album Inspirations: New Works for Solo Guitar (CBC’s Record of the Week, 2022). His teaching has produced students who have won RCM Gold Medals and prestigious competitions.
Performance highlights include concerto debuts with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra (2023), recitals across Europe and North America, and festival appearances at Open Ears, Koerner’s 21C, and Livorno Music Festival. He maintains a private studio in Toronto and collaborates with SiccasGuitars on instrument development and recordings.
