Daniel Quirós is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Lafayette College. Born in San José, Costa Rica, he holds an M.A. in Latin American Studies and a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego. His academic work bridges creative writing and critical analysis, with a focus on Latin American and Central American literature and film, as well as crime fiction. He teaches courses on Latin American film, literature, and creative writing.
Quirós has published four fiction works: the short story collection A los cuatro vientos, and novels Verano rojo (winner of Costa Rica’s 2010 National Literature Prize), Lluvia del norte, and Mazunte. His novels have been translated into French and featured in international festivals such as Guadalajara International Book Fair and Medellín Negro.
His research and publications explore intersections of narrative form, cultural identity, and socio-political themes. His scholarly articles appear in journals like A Contracorriente, Istmo, and Romance Notes, alongside contributions to media outlets including La Nación and El Faro.
Quirós has been a featured speaker at festivals including the Quais du Polar and Toulouse Polars du Sud, highlighting his engagement with both academic and public literary spheres.
