Dr. Antonio Cardentey is a Lecturer of Spanish at Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Modern Languages. His academic career includes prior roles as a research associate at the Cuban Academy of Sciences and copyeditor at Wifredo Lam Center for Contemporary Art. He holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature, an M.A. in Hispanic Philology (Spanish National Research Council), and a B.A. in Humanities with a focus on Hispanic Linguistics (University of Havana).
His research focuses on affect theory, Caribbean historical novels, Soviet-Latin American cultural interactions, and speculative fiction. Major projects include Crítica de la pasión caribeña (exploring affective structures in Caribbean historiography) and Affective Technologies (examining Soviet scientific exchanges with Cuba). His work engages theorists like Deleuze, Ahmed, and Massumi to analyze texts by Benítez Rojo, Álvarez, and Rodríguez Juliá.
Teaching highlights include courses on Latin American speculative fiction, Soviet-Cuban cultural relations, and Spanish language instruction at all levels. He pioneered Georgia Tech’s first Foreign Language Pedagogy Workshop and co-leads the Language for Business and Technology (LBAT) study-abroad program in Cádiz, Spain. His pedagogical innovations integrate UN Sustainable Development Goals into STEM language education.

Dr. Cardentey’s publications span Journal of Eastern Caribbean Studies, Alambique, and edited volumes such as A Cuban Cinema Companion. His research bridges cultural studies, digital humanities, and the ethics of science and technology, emphasizing transnational and interdisciplinary approaches.
