Dr. Daniel Meier is a Professor of Elementary Education at San Francisco State University, specializing in early childhood education, language and literacy development, and narrative inquiry. He teaches in the M.A. Early Childhood Education program, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program, and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. His courses focus on reading, multilingual development, narrative inquiry, and international education.
Dr. Meier holds a B.A. in English Literature from Wesleyan University, an Ed.M. in Reading and Language from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy from UC Berkeley. His research emphasizes culturally responsive pedagogy, teacher reflection, and international educational collaborations, particularly with Palestinian educators. He actively works with local Bay Area early childhood inquiry groups and teaches preschool literacy development.
His publications include seminal works on nature education, literacy for children of color, and narrative inquiry. He has authored/co-authored numerous books and articles, such as *Nature Education in Early Childhood Education* (2020) and *Toward a Strength-Based Approach to the Literacy Education of Preschool Children of Color* (2020). His research bridges theory and practice, integrating inquiry-based methods and reflective practices.
Dr. Meier’s work highlights cross-border collaboration and the importance of teacher-driven inquiry in fostering educational change. He advocates for strength-based approaches in literacy education and the role of narrative in teacher development.
