Daniel Marcu is an Associate Tutor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia (UEA), where he teaches reproductive biology, fertility, and genetics to students across levels 3-6. He is also a Senior Research Scientist in Andrology, focusing on male infertility and assisted reproduction technologies (ART). His work bridges genome editing, molecular biology, and clinical applications, contributing to both academic research and industry through co-founding Virilitas Labs, a UEA spin-out.
Academic Background: Daniel holds a BSc in Biomedical Science (2015-2018) and an MSc in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine (2018-2019) from University College London. His PhD (completed under Prof. Simone Immler at UEA) explored haploid selection in male fertility using cutting-edge genomic tools.
Research Interests: His work emphasizes the impact of environmental contaminants on male fertility, novel diagnostic tools for infertility, and improving ART outcomes. He actively collaborates globally to advance reproductive and genetic research, with a focus on translating findings into clinical and educational applications.
Collaborations and Impact: Daniel has established partnerships worldwide and contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and education. His research has been featured in media outlets, highlighting its societal relevance.
Advising and Grants: As a PhD supervisor, he mentors students in reproductive genetics and genomics. His work on sperm selection and genetic load management in ART has attracted interdisciplinary attention and funding opportunities.
