Tomer Avidor-Reiss is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toledo, where he leads a research laboratory focused on centrioles, centrosomes, and cilia in reproductive biology. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego. His research bridges molecular genetics, advanced imaging, and clinical andrology.

His research centers on the role of centrioles in fertilization and embryonic development, particularly the origin and function of sperm centrioles. He discovered the Proximal Centriole-Like (PCL) structure in Drosophila and demonstrated the presence of atypical centrioles in human sperm. His work has redefined understanding of centrosome inheritance and its implications for male infertility. He developed the Fluorescence-Based Ratiometric Analysis of Sperm Centrioles (FRAC) as a diagnostic tool for unexplained infertility.
His recent publications span reproductive biology, cell architecture, ciliogenesis, and male infertility diagnostics. Themes include centriole evolution, cytoplasmic ciliogenesis, transition zone dynamics, and the clinical translation of basic findings. He has contributed to global discussions on sperm DNA fragmentation, AI in scientific writing, and citation integrity.
