Dr. Daniel Lobo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He directs the Lobo Lab, which investigates the regulation of biological growth and form through integrated computational and experimental approaches. His research combines mathematical modeling with molecular biology to understand development, regeneration, and disease mechanisms.
His research program spans computational systems biology, dynamic regulatory networks, pattern formation mechanisms, and synthetic biology applications. The lab develops novel computational methods for reverse-engineering biological systems and creating expert systems for biological discovery.
Dr. Lobo has developed significant resources including the Fluxer web application for metabolic flux analysis, mergem for metabolic model comparison, and protocols for streamlined genetic cloning. His publications demonstrate strong focus on planarian regeneration, spatial pattern formation, and computational methods development.
His work is supported by multiple grants including NIH MIRA R35, Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund, and NSF awards. He teaches courses in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
