Daniel LaFave is an Associate Professor of Economics and Associate Chair of the Economics Department at Colby College. His research focuses on development economics, health economics, labor economics, and applied econometrics. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Duke University and a B.A. in International Studies from Boston College.
His research explores topics such as the impact of extreme weather on economic behavior, the role of family networks in mitigating health risks, and the effectiveness of health-related interventions in developing countries. Notable projects include studies on biomass cookstoves in Ethiopia and remittance behavior among Chinese migrants. His work frequently employs experimental and empirical methods to address real-world policy challenges.
LaFave has published extensively on development and environmental economics, with a particular emphasis on household decision-making and technological adoption in low-income settings. His findings contribute to understanding how socioeconomic factors influence health outcomes and labor market dynamics. He currently teaches courses in econometrics and health and global development at Colby College.
