Daniel Keeling is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in Music Theatre at the University of California, Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts. He combines a distinguished performing career with extensive teaching experience in vocal instruction and drama education. His roles include stage directing, most recently co-directing The Prom and preparing to direct Ancestry in the 2025 Theater of Community Festival. Keeling holds a BM from Wichita State University, an MM from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), and an MFA in Drama (Musical Theatre) from CCM.
His research interests span vocal performance across classical, contemporary, and music theatre genres, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaborations and vocal pedagogy. Keeling has performed globally with renowned artists like Sarah Connor, Philip Glass, and Leonard Cohen, featured in major opera roles (e.g., Figaro in Il Nozze di Figaro), and collaborated with orchestras such as the Auckland Chamber Orchestra and Bielefelder Philharmoniker.
Prior to UC Irvine, he maintained a vocal studio in Germany and taught music in Berlin schools. His work emphasizes bridging classical and modern vocal techniques while advocating for community-driven artistic initiatives.
