Daniel J. Mabrey serves as an Associate Professor in the Criminal Justice Department at the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, University of New Haven. He additionally holds a professorship at the College of International and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, where he supports initiatives including the Education Development Working Group within the Partnership for Peace Consortium and the Countering Transnational Organized Crime program.
His research interests span Defense/Security Education Reform, Faculty Development, Instructional Design, Assessment and Evaluation, Gulf Cooperation Council Security Issues, Natural Resource Curse, Extractive Industries, and Transnational Organized Crime. Dr. Mabrey has published two books, written more than 30 academic papers, authored 5 government reports, and delivered over 100 academic and policy presentations across 50+ countries.
Dr. Mabrey has secured more than $7 million in research funding as principal investigator from prestigious agencies including DARPA, Naval Research Laboratory, Army Research Laboratory, Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, Department of Homeland Security, National Institute of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services. His current work focuses on leading UNH's security education reform/modernization initiatives in Gulf Cooperation Countries.
His professional background includes being a Research Fellow at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2014-2016), a Proteus Management Group Fellow at the US Army War College (2006-2008), and an instructor at the US Department of State's International Law Enforcement Academy (2005-2010).
Dr. Mabrey earned his Ph.D. from Sam Houston State University, where he also received his B.A. and B.B.A. degrees. He joined the University of New Haven faculty in 2008 and received tenure with promotion to Associate Professor in 2014.
