Daniel H. Halberstam

Daniel H. Halberstam is the Eric Stein Collegiate Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School and Director of its European Legal Studies Program. He previously served as Associate Dean for Faculty and Research (2017–2020). His expertise spans constitutional law, federalism, comparative public law, and legal theory, particularly in European Union contexts.

Education: Columbia University (BA, summa cum laude in Mathematics and Psychology), Yale Law School (JD, Coker Fellow for Constitutional Law).

Research focuses on constitutional pluralism, EU legal frameworks, and transnational governance. His work bridges US and European legal systems, including contributions to Brexit litigation and EU human rights policy. He lectures widely in Europe and advises institutions like Germany’s university excellence commission and the Luxembourg Forum.

Teaching includes courses on EU Law, Global Constitutionalism, and US Constitutional Law. He has held visiting roles at the College of Europe (Bruges) and the European University Institute (Florence).
