Daniel Friedrich

Daniel Friedrich is Professor of Energy Systems at the University of Edinburgh, holding the Personal Chair of Energy Systems. Educated at Universität Karlsruhe (Diplom), University of Auckland (Postgraduate Diploma), and University of Southampton (Ph.D.), his research develops mathematical models for sustainable energy infrastructure with focus on thermal storage, carbon capture, and renewable integration.

Current research examines subsurface thermal storage systems, hybrid energy networks, and decarbonization pathways for building portfolios. His group specializes in multi-objective optimization of integrated energy systems under uncertainty.
