Philipp Blum

Philipp Blum is a Professor and Deputy Spokesperson for Georesources at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's Institute of Applied Geosciences. His research advances sustainable subsurface energy solutions, focusing on aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES), urban geothermal systems, and climate impacts on groundwater.

Work integrates experimental and modeling approaches to optimize geothermal installations, analyze thermal properties of grouting materials, and manage urban aquifers. Recent studies examine grain-scale heat transport, global well integrity standards, and ecological impacts of groundwater temperature changes. Projects span Berlin's urban aquifers, Lower Saxony's hospital energy systems, and global groundwater warming projections.
