Daniel Driscoll is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on decarbonization strategies, climate finance, political economy, and environmental policy. Previously held postdoctoral positions at Brown University’s Watson Institute and visiting roles at Germany’s Max Planck Institute and France’s School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences. Completed PhD at UC San Diego.
Key research interests include carbon taxation equity, renewable energy policy, and the socio-economic impacts of climate change mitigation efforts. His book project, Why Carbon Taxes Failed, examines policy failures in climate governance. Awards include grants from the Andrew Mellon Foundation and fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies.
Publications span journals like Social Problems, Journal of Common Market Studies, and Socius. Engages with broader audiences through media outlets like Financial Times and Bloomberg. Active in think tank collaborations and governmental advisory roles outside academia.
Current office hours held Thursdays 11am-12pm in Randall 226. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate sociology courses related to environmental policy and political economy.
