Daniel Chrisman serves as a Part-time Instructor of Applied Music at Southwestern University's Music Department, specializing in bassoon and contrabassoon instruction since 2014. He maintains an active professional performance career while teaching.
His primary research and performance interests focus on Bassoon Performance, Contrabassoon Performance, Orchestral Music, and Chamber Music. Chrisman integrates his extensive professional experience into his teaching methodology, emphasizing practical orchestral techniques and repertoire.
As an active performer, Chrisman holds the contrabassoon position with the Austin Symphony Orchestra (since 2007), serves as Assistant Principal in the Austin Opera orchestra (since 2017), and plays 2nd bassoon in the ROCO Chamber Orchestra (since 2008). He has participated in significant university events including the 2016 SU Conductors' Institute as part of the part-time faculty performing ensemble.
