Daniel Brunner

Daniel Brunner is a permanent CNRS researcher at the FEMTO-ST institute (UMR CNRS 6174) in Besançon, France, holding his position since 2015. His research centers on photonic information processing with fundamental contributions to photonic AI and optical neural network architectures, targeting novel substrates for neuromorphic computing.

His work has accumulated over 3,500 citations, leading to invitations at 40+ international conferences. He actively participates in and leads research projects funded by the European Commission, Spanish Ministry of Education and Industry, French Ministry of Education, and Volkswagen Foundation.

Since 2019, Brunner serves as managing editor of Nanophotonics. Based in the Department of Optics at FEMTO-ST (Office N1-BUR-04), he directs a research team exploring photonics-AI integration for next-generation computing systems.
