Dr. Daniel B. Horton serves as Associate Professor of Pediatrics with Tenure at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Rutgers School of Public Health. He holds leadership roles as Faculty Director of the IFH Survey/Data Core, Chancellor’s Scholar, and founding core faculty member of the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science (PETS) at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research.
His academic credentials include an AB from Harvard College (2001), MD from Harvard Medical School (2008), and MSCE in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania (2015).
Research focuses on pharmacoepidemiology and pediatric rheumatology, specifically drug utilization, effectiveness, and safety in pediatric populations, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) management, and microbiome interactions. His work extends to COVID-19 and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), employing retrospective claims analysis, electronic health records, and mixed-methods clinical research.
Scientific recognition includes:

- Fellow of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (FISPE)
Funding sources encompass multiple NIH institutes (NIAMS, NIAID, NCATS, NICHD) and research foundations. He consults for the FDA Drug Safety Advisory Committee and serves as Associate Editor for Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety.
Dr. Horton co-leads the NJ ACTS Team Science Core, directs the Clinical Epidemiology Certificate Program, and co-chairs the Pediatric Resident Scholarly Oversight Committee while contributing to the Rutgers Child Health & Well-Being Research Group.
