Daniel Avraham Lemberg

Associate Professor Daniel (Avi) Lemberg serves as Head of Paediatric Gastroenterology at Sydney Children's Hospital and holds a conjoint appointment as Associate Professor with the School of Women's & Children's Health at UNSW Medicine. Appointed to his hospital leadership position in 2010, he also directs the Children's Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Clinic at Sydney Children's Hospital and was appointed Conjoint Associate Professor at UNSW Australia in 2013.

Dr. Lemberg's research expertise centers on pediatric gastrointestinal disorders with particular focus on inflammatory bowel conditions. His clinical and research career has established him as a specialist in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, with significant contributions to understanding pathogenetic mechanisms underlying Crohn's Disease. His work spans translational research, clinical applications, and teaching in pediatric gastroenterology.

A/Prof Lemberg maintains active professional engagement as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology and as a Member of the Gastroenterology Society of Australasia. His research portfolio includes extensive work on intestinal microbiota composition in IBD using next-generation sequencing technology, evaluation of treatments like exclusive enteral nutrition and probiotics for children with IBD, and clinical research on Coeliac disease and Eosinophilic Oesophagitis.
