Daniel Acquah is a Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the University of Turku (UTU), affiliated with the Laws Academy. He holds an Academy Research Fellowship for his project on 'Technical Assistance as an Enabler of the Constitutionalizing of Intellectual Property Norms in Africa' (TACIP). Previously, he was a Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, a Postdoctoral Fellow at Turku Institute for Advanced Studies, and a Senior Research Associate at the Brussels School of Governance. His academic journey includes master's degrees in Criminology, Law, and dual doctoral degrees from UTU and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Acquah’s research focuses on international and European intellectual property law, with an emphasis on African contexts, law and development, and Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL). He has contributed to multiple Academy of Finland projects, including eCoherence, TranSip, and Digital Disruption of Industry. His work addresses colonial legacies, global justice, and postcolonial legal frameworks.
Acquah teaches Intellectual Property Law at UTU and other institutions, including the University of Eastern Finland and Hanken School of Economics. He has collaborated with leading IP research centers like CEIPI and Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute. His scholarly outputs span articles in top law journals, edited volumes, and blogs such as AfronomicsLaw, focusing on topics like IP treaty compliance, colonial legal histories, and African regional IP systems.
Key awards include the Academy Research Fellowship. His teaching includes courses like 'Comparative Trade Secret Law' and 'Intellectual Property Rights and Research.' Acquah’s work bridges legal scholarship with global development challenges, advocating for equitable IP frameworks in the Global South.
