Dr. Ahmad Ghouri is an Associate Professor in Commercial Law at the University of Sussex, affiliated with the School of Law, Politics and Sociology. He holds a dual expertise in international investment law and Shariah-compliant dispute resolution. Previously, he served as a Senior Lecturer (2017–present), Lecturer (2014–2017), and part-time faculty at institutions like the University of Turku and University of Oslo. His research focuses on treaty conflicts, arbitration reform, and the intersection of Islamic law with international systems.
Education includes an LLD in Commercial Law from the University of Turku (2012) and an LLM from the University of Manchester (2002). Awards include the Turku Outstanding Dissertation Prize (2012–2013) and multiple research grants from Finnish institutions.
He leads projects funded by the Academy of Finland, such as 'Constitutional Hedges of Intellectual Property' and 'ECOHERENCE.' Editor-in-Chief roles include the Manchester Journal of Transnational Islamic Law & Practice and Legal Transformation in Muslim Societies. Current book projects explore Pakistan's international legal dynamics and transnational public-private contracts.
Professional memberships include the British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS) and the Global Advisory Board of the Centre for International Investment and Commercial Arbitration. His teaching spans domestic and international commercial law, emphasizing Islamic legal frameworks and global economic policies.
