Daniel A. Reed is a distinguished academic and former head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois (1996–2001). He is recognized for advancing computational science and high-performance computing (HPC) systems. During his leadership, he spearheaded the launch of the online Master of Computer Science (MCS) degree, significantly increased research funding and endowments, and initiated planning for the Siebel Center for Computer Science.
