Daniel A. Hirshberg is a Teaching Professor of Tibetan Studies and Associate Faculty Director of Himalayan Languages at the University of Colorado Boulder, affiliated with the Center for Asian Studies. He focuses on cultural memory, Tibet’s conversion to Buddhism, and the literary and iconographic apotheosis of Padmasambhava.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Inner Asian and Altaic Studies, Harvard University
- M.A. in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism with Tibetan and Sanskrit Languages, Naropa University
Awards:
- Honorable Mention for the E. Gene Smith Book Prize (2016) for Remembering the Lotus-Born: Padmasambhava in the History of Tibet’s Golden Age.
