Daniel A. Barbash is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences. He participates in multiple graduate fields including Biochemistry, Molecular & Cell Biology, and Genetics, Genomics & Development. His research focuses on molecular and genome evolution, with particular emphasis on transposable element regulation and speciation mechanisms.

Barbash's research explores molecular evolution through three primary lenses: (1) the genetics and molecular evolution of interspecific hybrid incompatibilities, (2) rapid evolution of germ-line genes, and (3) transposable element dynamics. His work on piRNA regulation and heterochromatic repeat suppression has significantly advanced understanding of genomic stability mechanisms in Drosophila.
Recent publications reveal trends in transposable element dynamics across telomeres (2021), satellite DNA evolution (2018), and hybrid incompatibility genetics (2014-2022). His research combines computational genomics with experimental approaches to study evolutionary patterns in model organisms.
