Robert Kofler

Robert Kofler is an independent group leader (equivalent to Associate Professor) at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, affiliated with the Institute of Population Genetics. He conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of genomics, evolution, and bioinformatics, focusing on the dynamics of transposable elements and the molecular mechanisms underlying adaptation.

His research interests center on understanding the evolutionary forces shaping genome diversity across species. Using computational simulations, experimental evolution, and novel sequencing technologies, his lab investigates how transposable elements invade and spread in genomes, how piRNA clusters regulate them, and how these processes contribute to adaptive evolution.
