Dana Potter

Dana Potter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Design at Furman University. Her work bridges traditional printmaking with digital technologies, focusing on themes of surveillance, biometric data, and ethical uses of AI. She serves as Senior User Experience Designer for Fortepan US (a National Archives-funded project) and co-coordinates the Open Air Media Festival (NEA-funded). Her research explores how digital technologies shape human narratives, with a particular interest in facial recognition systems' societal impacts.

Research Interests: Dana’s practice investigates biometric technologies like eye-trackers and facial recognition software, translating digital data into physical prints. Her work critiques algorithmic bias and surveillance capitalism, advocating for marginalized voices in the digital landscape. Projects include Data Figures (2021), an installation visualizing facial recognition datasets, and Portrait of an Average Woman (2024), an AR performance exploring AI-generated identities.
