Dana Peterson, PhD, is a Professor and Director of Anatomical Sciences at Drexel University College of Medicine’s West Reading Campus. She directs the Embryology and Neuroscience threads, teaches gross anatomy/histology in foundational courses, and facilitates case-based learning. Her career spans over 30 years in medical education at institutions like the University of Alabama-Birmingham and Northeast Ohio Medical University.
Education: PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and higher education (University of Maine); three master’s degrees in biological sciences (University of Colorado), educational administration (University of Oklahoma), and instructional technology (Kent State University).
Research focuses on anatomical education innovation and underrepresented student pathways. Notable contributions include designing a URIM student pathway program (MA in Modern Anatomical Sciences) and serving as U.S. organizer for the International Brain Bee neuroscience competition for high schoolers. Recognized with the 2025 Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence.
Leadership roles include anatomical sciences directorship and curriculum development. Active in national medical education initiatives.
