Kelly Brenan, MD, is an Assistant Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine's West Reading Campus. She serves as Microanatomy (Histology) thread director and Pathology thread director, teaching Gross Anatomy, Case-Based Learning, and mentoring medical students. She trained in anatomic pathology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and NIH/National Cancer Institute, with a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on genitourinary pathology, particularly prostate carcinoma.
Dr. Brenan holds a BA in Fine Arts from Georgetown University (1997) and an MD from Thomas Jefferson Medical College (2004). She has received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2023 and 2025. She is active in women's advocacy, co-founding the Group on Women in Medicine and Science at Uniformed Services University and currently chairs the Women in Medicine & Science Committee at Drexel. She also develops medical humanities electives integrating medicine with art.
Professional affiliations include the Pathology Society of Philadelphia and United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology. She provides pathology didactics at Tower Health's Reading Hospital and advocates for underserved communities, having previously mentored in Philadelphia’s Big Sisters program.
