Dana Muir is the Robert L. Dixon Collegiate Professor and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Business Law at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. A nationally recognized expert on fiduciary and remedial issues, her research focuses on pension plan funding, investment policies, and employee benefits law. She earned her JD from University of Michigan (1990), MBA from University of Detroit (1980), and AB from University of Michigan (1978).
Her scholarly work has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court and she serves as Editor-in-Chief of Employee Benefits Law supplements. Professor Muir chaired the DOL working group on Defined Benefit Plan Funding and was a Congressional Fellow. She holds fellowships in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and served on the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council.
Research focuses on intersections of fiduciary duty and sustainable investing, particularly regarding participant preferences in retirement plans. Recent publications analyze regulatory gaps in investment advice and intergenerational equity in defined contribution systems.
